The music industry has been left shocked, after Gangsta’s Paradise rapper Coolio was found dead in Los Angeles at the age of 59.

Whatever your musical tastes, most people who were around in the 1990s heard, sang, and rapped to Gangsta’s Paradise. It was the iconic song that featured in hit film Dangerous Minds, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, and earned him a prestigious Grammy Award for best rap solo performance in 1996.

Coolio, born Artis Leon Ivey Jr, was best known for the song, from his album of the same name, despite having tried to make a name for himself on the LA rap scene since the 1980s.

His manager Jarez Posey told the media that Coolio was found unresponsive in a friend’s bathroom on September 28th.

Law enforcement sources revealed: “No drugs or drug paraphernalia were found at the scene of Coolio’s death.”

An autopsy and toxicology test will be undertaken to determine how the rapper, who was nominated for five other Grammys during his lifetime, died.

The news comes as a blow to the music industry, as Coolio was seen performing just a few days ago at the Riot Fest 2022. On September 18th, he took to the stage at Douglass Park, Chicago, for the festival.

He also posted a *video to his Instagram page of himself performing to crowds on September 24th, which has now been seen more than 275,000 times.

Celebrities from the music and film industries have led *tributes to the star on social media, starting with Pfeiffer, who said: “Heartbroken to hear of the passing of the gifted artist @coolio. A life cut entirely too short.”
